VELA Sailing Towers

5-star hotel and mixed-use complex — Casablanca, Morocco. 2025–2026.

Project Vision

The sailing towers project proposes an architecture that is both iconic and lived-in, where form, use and environment are intimately linked. It aims to create a singular living environment, open to the landscape, and carrying a strong identity, between land, water and sky.

VELA reimagines the Casablanca waterfront as a landmark destination — a place where maritime heritage meets contemporary luxury. The tower forms draw inspiration from the billowing sails of traditional Moroccan fishing boats, creating a silhouette that is both rooted in local culture and forward-looking in ambition.

The complex integrates a 5-star hotel, private residences, and curated amenities within a cohesive architectural language — each element designed to maximise views of the Atlantic Ocean and the city skyline while maintaining a dialogue with the surrounding urban fabric.

Design Principles

  • Form follows wind — sail-inspired tower geometry optimises natural ventilation and daylight penetration across all units.
  • Land-water-sky continuity — terraced landscapes, reflective pools and sky gardens blur the boundary between interior and exterior.
  • Local identity — materials, patterns and craft traditions drawn from Moroccan and Atlantic coastal heritage.
  • Sustainable luxury — passive cooling, solar orientation, rainwater harvesting and low-carbon construction systems.

Programme

  • 5-star hotel with 180+ rooms and suites
  • Private residences with panoramic ocean views
  • Rooftop restaurant and sky bar
  • Wellness centre and infinity pool
  • Marina-facing promenade and retail arcade
  • Underground parking and service infrastructure

Lead Architect

Frédéric Bekas

Frédéric Bekas is a Paris-based architect known for his approach to vitalist architecture — designs that respond to the forces of nature, climate and landscape. His practice integrates environmental sensitivity with bold formal expression, creating buildings that are both poetically conceived and rigorously constructed.

For VELA, Bekas brings a deep understanding of maritime forms and North African context, translating the dynamics of wind, water and light into a built language that is at once iconic and deeply human.
